On September 25th, 2024, we (Cathy and Joe R.) left for Montrose, CO, a 5 hour drive located 241 miles southwest of Colorado Springs. We spent 4 days there. The weather was beautiful with blue sky and sunshine for our entire trip. We had 3 objectives to see: Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, the newly remodeled Ute Indian Museum and taking a private guided tour of the Shavano Petroglyphs Rock Art. Our knowledgeable guide was highly recommended by a volunteer at the Museum. Don't miss the Videos Page in that section for detailed descriptions of some of the petroglyphs. We stayed at an AirBnB in Montrose, a very quaint western town. We would soon discover a wonderful locally owned restaurant, Ted Nelson's Steak House, and meet friendly and inviting residents. Besides accomplishing our main three objectives, the ride back home was astounding and breathtaking. it was the peak time for Colorado's Fall colors. Also, be sure to view the Videos Pages in section #2 Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (2 videos) and section #4 Shavano Rock Art Petroglyphs Private Guided Tour (5 videos). Cathy & Joe R.
