Introduction

Joe and I were invited to join Amanda, Joe and Holt for a 4 day trip to the town of Granby, Colorado, Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park over the July 4th weekend. We would join their friends Kate, Mike and their two children for an afternoon at Quinette Picnic Area on the shore of Lake Granby where the kids could swim in a Glacial Lake, play with bugs (that all little boys love to do) and just have fun while the adults relax.

The five of us would drive through Rocky Mountain National Park to the Alpine Visitor Center at the top of Trail Ridge Road. Joe, Amanda and Holt would hike up the trail to reach the highest point off of Trail Ridge Rd., 12,005 ft. altitude, while Joe and I enjoyed a cup of coffee in the Visitor Center Cafe. When they returned, Holt took his oath to become a Junior Ranger and get his Junior Ranger Badge.

We would see a wonderful display of fireworks on the evening of July 3rd not far from our condo rental. On July 4th we would have a wonderful dinner at the Grand Lake Lodge. After dinner, we went down to the lower patio where we had a terrific view of the fireworks that were launched from a boat on Grand Lake

Of course, on a trip like this, you would be driving over a Mountain Pass that would guarantee spectacular scenery and jaw dropping switch backs. At 11,300 ft., Berthoud Pass did not disappoint.

It was a wonderful trip and of course the best part was experiencing it all together.
