On Monday, August 9, 2021, Nancy and Atis invited Holt, Grammy and Grampy up to their house in Palmer Lake, Colorado (about a 20 min. drive North of our house in Colorado Springs) to make homemade ice cream and have lunch - of course, with fresh ice cream for dessert. Nancy was Head Chef, Holt and Grammy were Sous Chefs, Atis was the equipment manager and Grampy was camera man and occasional commentator.
Needless to say, to satisfy Holt's taste, it had to be chocolate ice cream. Nancy found a most decadent recipe, which involved multiple chocolate elements, and oddly vanilla beans, and most contradictingly, required heating and cooking - to make ICE cream! Who knew?
Nancy was a really great instructor (not surprisingly, as she is a retired teacher), and did a wonderful job of keeping Holt engaged throughout the process. Having just turned 4 years old in June, this was Holt's first experience making ice cream, and - strangely - considering their somewhat more advanced years, it was Grammy and Grampy's first time as well.
Thank you so much, Nancy and Atis, for providing such a wonderful and fun day in your home, not to mention lunch and the decadently delicious homemade ice cream.
