The Story of Our Alaskan Cruise

Our very first cruise came about in a most surprising way. Our son, Joe, surprised his mother on Mother's Day by stating that he wanted to do something very special for her July birthday this year since it was a "big" one. She was about to turn 60 years old! He stated that although his dad and mom never considered taking a cruise, he wondered if this was something we might like to do. Once she got control of herself, she said that she would really like to go to Alaska and see the glaciers, since both family and friends have done this via a cruise, and loved it, Both Joe (son) and Joe (husband) thought it was a wonderful idea.

Within a week, we had a travel agent, chose the Princess Cruise Line, chose our ship, our cabin and our travel dates. We really felt that a balcony would be important on this trip since a large part of this cruise is sightseeing from the ship. This would prove to be the best decision we could have made. We chose a seven day cruise, and would fly out of Colorado Springs on Sept. 15th to Anchorage, Alaska where we would be bused to Whittier to catch our ship, the Island Princess. We would sail south seeing the College Fjord, Glacier Bay National Park, with ports of call at Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan. Our cruise would end at our point of disembarkation in Vancouver, Canada.

The trip would turn out to be a once in a lifetime experience. Even now, it still seems like a dream!
